TasICT strives to protect Tasmanians from Cyber Threats

The increasing threats of Cyber Security and how Tasmanian enterprises can better protect themselves will be the focus of a one-day conference in Hobart being run by TasICT, the State’s Peak Industry Body for the Information, Communication and Technology sector in conjunction with AISA – Australian Information Security Association.

The Cyber Conference is at Wrest Point on Thursday September 29, featuring 15 separate Presentation Sessions focusing on the most important Cyber Security topics facing the ICT Industry, Business Community and the General Public. Many Cyber Security experts believe the methods used by Cyber Criminals continue to evolve and it is not good enough just to keep up – instead an effort must be made to get ahead of the curve.

An official welcome to the event will be delivered by the Minister for Science and Technology Hon. Madeleine Ogilvie MP, followed by two concurrent streams of Presentation Sessions. The day will wrap up with the Tasmanian Government Cyber Security Summit before delegates are treated to a post-event networking event.

TasICT Chief Executive Officer Steve Adermann believes the Cyber Conference will attract a large audience, especially considering the rapid rate at which Cyber Crime is growing. He says, “whether it’s the risks associated with Working from Home, Vulnerability Management, Incident Response, Training Pathways, Zero Trust, Adaptive Authentication, Cyber Insurance, Governance or Cyber for Beginners, there will be a broad range of topics discussed throughout the conference”. Each Presentation Session will last 40 minutes, including an opportunity to ask questions. The 10-minute break between Presentation Sessions will allow delegates to refresh, grab a drink and decide which topic they wish to hear about next.

“Although the Cyber Conference is free to attend, delegates must register online” according to Mr Adermann, who says “the best way to get more information as well as register for a ticket, is by going on to the TasICT website”.

In addition to the long list of well-credentialed speakers delivering Presentation Sessions, the Cyber Conference will feature Vendor Expo Stands with representatives from leading Cyber Security companies explaining and demonstrating the latest products and services.
