Resignation of TasICT CEO Russell Kelly

Tasmania’s peak body for the technology sector, TasICT, is recruiting its next CEO after Russell Kelly announced he will leave the organisation at the end of December.

TasICT President David Mills praised Mr Kelly for his tireless work in helping shape Tasmania’s tech sector first as a Management Committee member for two years, and then as CEO for the past two and a half years.

“During Mr Kelly’s time in the CEO role, TasICT has been an effective and visible contributor to Tasmania’s economic decision-making, during a period when the adoption of technology has at times been divisive and controversial.

“The tech sector contributes more than $1.3 billion annually to Tasmania’s economy and employs more than 10,800 Tasmanians. Mr Kelly has been a positive voice for tech adoption, especially through advocating for responsible artificial intelligence and stronger cyber security.”

Mr Mills said TasICT was seeking a leader with the advocacy skills, networks and technology optimism to take the sector forward.

“Technology is the key to Tasmania’s future prosperity and TasICT wants to hear from candidates who can continue to bring the sector together, build strong relationships with government and other industry sectors, and advocate clearly for Tasmania’s technology workforce,” Mr Mills said.

Mr Kelly said a highlight of his time as CEO was ensuring responsible technology and innovation was seen as an opportunity for Tasmania to transform its economic base.

“TasICT’s membership is at a record high, the organisation is in excellent financial shape and, most importantly, we’ve adopted a constructive leadership approach that respects different viewpoints while building support for solutions.”

“TasICT members have supported our vision of growing the technology sector and creating tech jobs as our sector rapidly changes,” Mr Kelly said.
