Tasmanian Information Technology Sector rewards Sustainability

Tasmania’s Peak Industry Body for the Information, Communication & Technology Sector (TasICT), has announced a new category for its annual Awards Night.

The TasICT Awards being held on June 28th will feature a new prize acknowledging a business or technology which contributes to sustainability or the protection of the environment. TasICT Chief Executive Officer Steve Adermann said that there are many local technology companies and projects now focussing on environmental sustainability and as an industry we would like to highlight and reward their innovation and foresight.

The TasICT State Awards which are held in conjunction with the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) iAwards, provide the opportunity for digital pioneers to have their technology recognised worldwide. Winners of the State iAwards can go on to represent Tasmania on a national level and possibly the prestigious International Award.

In addition to the six AIIA iAward categories, TasICT present five locally judged Awards. The categories include Best ICT Employer, Best Customer Service in an ICT Business, Outstanding Contribution for a Tasmanian Woman in Technology, Best Program or Project Management – and the latest addition – Contribution to Sustainable Development or Protection of the Environment.

Mr Adermann said “Entries for the new award category will be judged on contribution to sustainability in the enterprise, reduction of impact on the environment, increased energy efficiency, innovative characteristics and how the technology or business is helping to build a thriving TCT industry in Tasmania”.

Entries for the five TasICT Awards open today and will close at 5pm on Friday June 7, 2019.
