2023 STEM Innovation of the Year Award

Applications are now open for the 2023 Tasmanian STEM Excellence Awards, celebrating Tasmanians leading the way in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
The Minister’s Tasmanian STEM Innovation of the Year Award will recognise a business or individual for their innovative STEM product, process or service that has been developed and applied during the period 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2023.
The Award winner will be presented with a $5,000 cheque and trophy at the Tasmanian STEM Excellence Awards reception in Hobart in November 2023.

Past winners of the Innovation category include:

• 2022 – Scoot Boot Pty Ltd for their fully-adjustable ‘Enduro’ hoof boot, designed to fit horses that don’t conform to the usual hoof shape of short toes and heels.
• 2021 – Jay Nik Pty Ltd for their Drop & LockTM syringe, developed to improve syringe labelling and traceability for medication ampoules and vials.
• 2020 – University of Tasmania for their ‘OxyGenie’ neonatal automated oxygen control system. Their patented algorithm enables a ventilator to “learn” how to optimise the needs of each infant.
