Not if but when

STATEMENT ON TASMANIAN GOVERNMENT’S CYBER-SECURITY INCIDENT

TasICT, the peak body representing that ICT industry in Tasmania, believes that cyber-security is of critical importance – and no Government, businesses or citizen is immune from this ever-present threat.

This most recent incident serves as a reminder of the need to implement best practice controls and processes to protect from malicious actors who are intent on creating damage.

It is not a matter of ‘if’, but ‘when’, and will only become more prevalent in future.

TasICT welcomes the Tasmanian Government’s initiative of a support hotline for any citizens who believe that they may have been affected by this incident. The hotline can be contacted on 1800 567 567 from 9am to 6pm.

It’s recommended that individuals, families, small businesses, medium enterprises, large corporations and Government understand how to prepare for and cope with a cyber-attack.
